Cardio Core Thursday and Wednesday Arms

Hello Fluffies,

This was yesterday's workout.
It was arms day and because I thought I would be making a trip to the zoo with my boyfriend, I only did 3 workout videos thinking that I would be clocking in alot calories burned in the cardio department. Unfortunately, we were stuck in Vivocity due to the rainy weather :/

I had the intention of finishing up my arm workout today but decided not to because I got lazy lol

So for today, its cardio core!

1.Flat Belly fat burner:

2. 5 min Fat burner:

3. 5 Best Abs exercises:

4. POP Pilates: Hot Abs:

6. Thigh trimmer & Butt Lifter:

I ended it off by switching one of the ab workouts to a butt workout just because.

I found out something amazing today.. I can do fried barley! So yay to more fibre and lower GI carb alternative :) If you're wondering, this lunchtime mess is fried barley with vegetables and eggs with sriracha sauce topped with sesame seeds.

After my student orientation session at SIM (I was so nervous for some reason), I spent a part of my afternoon waiting in Wang Coffeeshop for my passport photo to be done. While waiting, I decided to do some sketching to kill time.

Sunday Gym and Soy Protein

Hey fluffies,

Today's workout wasn't much :/

No cardio today because I felt quite full from breakfast. :/

1. Shoulder and arm raises with resistance tubes:
  • 3 sets of 15 reps
2. Squats with 10kg weights each side with 10kg barbell:
  • 4 sets of 12 reps
A lot less than what I would usually do. This is because today, I chose to concentrate on having a proper form. With the help of a friend at the gym, I managed to achieve a proper neutral form for squatting and to also squat lower. It felt a lot harder than usual.

3. Stiff leg deadlift with 10kg weights each side with 10kg barbell:
  • 4 sets of 12 reps
4. Walking lunges with 2.5kg weights each side with 10kg barbell:
  • 4 sets of 12 steps
5. Hamstring extensions with 3kg weights each side with 10kg barbell:
  • 4 sets of 12 steps
That was it! But I did break out a sweat and am feeling really tired right now.

During my gym session, I was listening in on my friends' conversation. 2 of them are currently taking classes to train to be fitness instructors while one of them is a certified fitness instructor. The 2 of them were talking about protein powders, especially Casein. However it didn't sound like they really knew what were the stuffs doing for their bodies. I have personally never drank a full serving of protein shake before. The most I had was sip of chocolate whey protein shake from my friend's cup. I wasn't a fan of it and have always been quite a staunch believer in natural whole foods.

Which brings to mind what Cassey Ho posted recently about protein:
It's still not going to make me take protein powder because I just prefer to chow down on my proteins like eggs, meat, or maybe protein bars? Which I only take once in a blue moon.

My friend told me that he's been taking Soy protein for over a year now. It got me thinking because I've been trying to cut down on obvious soy products such as soy milk, tofu, etc as much as possible after reading about how soy beans are genetically modified crops with not much advantages to sing about.

Soy beans are so widely used around the world as it is the key ingredient in much of the processed foods available. In order to ensure a consistant supply of the crop, the beans are genetically modified and laden with chemicals to ensure 'healthy' crop growth. Soy is also one of the riches sources phytoestrogen, a plant based compound similar to estrogen.

Regarding estrogen,
'The estrogenic hormones are uniquely responsible for the growth and development of female sexual characteristics and reproduction in both humans and animals.'

I wouldn't say that this chart's indication of body fat percentage is accurate but it's a good general depiction of the human bodies at different stages of fat accumulation.

Because of this hormone, women carry more fat deposits in their bodies (which is also why women have curves)
The reason for this difference is that women at some point in their lives may nourish a fetus and then a baby from their own reserves, so women have to stock energy in the form of fat in anticipation of future pregnancies (and must stock even more energy during the last two trimesters of pregnancy).
So logically speaking, consuming too much soy based products would inhibit fat loss because this hormone would bind onto our fats.

When you consume products like unfermented or non-organic soy base products on a regular basis, you are more than likely consuming toxic estrogen in excess

In men and premenopausal women, too much estrogen — a condition called estrogen dominance — causes toxic fat gain, water retention, bloating, and a host of other health and wellness issues.

You must be thinking, its hard to avoid it when you are vegan or simply just love tofu and soy milk.

Good news for vegans who aren't so picky, you get to choose from other legumes such as green beans, lentils, etc. If you have to have milk with your cereal, there's almond milk. Trust me, it is a better pairing for cereals.

For the ones who simply love the taste of soy beans, make sure you go for organic soy beans. Nowadays, organic foods are in abundance so it is really not that hard to find. In fact, I get my organic seeds and beans from my neighbourhood supermarket (NTUC Fairprice).

It is really important to know what you eat, what it does to your body and where it comes from. We worry about diseases and sicknesses and how to fix them after getting diagnosed. But if we could just take a step back and look at the causes of our modern day illnesses, we would realise that most of the problems could have been prevented.

CARDIO thursday

Hi Fluffies,

Here is my very weak attempt at trying to do food styling. Obviously it is a disaster. My snow white and little dwarf couldn't save the day :(

However, I would like to talk about this jar of goodness here. It is Pu-er Tea with lemon slices and okay, theres a chunk right there.  The Pu-er tea is a type of dark tea that is produced in Yunan province, China.

"The soothing properties, aid digestion and are perfect after heavy or greasy meals. More recent studies indicate powerful cholesterol lowering effects, blood cleansing properties and aid significantly in weight loss efforts. Many published studies have been done showing the enormous health benefits of this wonderful tea."

Although dark Pu'erh tastes much like black tea, it is not black or oolong tea, but falls into a category of its own. Pu'erh is processed much like black tea with the exception of a couple steps. The tea is picked, processed and partially fired allowing the leaves to retain moisture. The slightly moist tea is then piled. The natural bacterium on the leaves creates a reaction similar to that of a compost pile. The tea is then aged, in special underground rooms or caves, adding to its unique character. One of the most significant distinctions of this tea is that it gets better over time. These aged teas are prized and can be found in vintages, like wine, some dating back 40 to 50 to 100 years.

I've been drinking Pu-erh tea for a long time and I find that it always helps to cleanse my stomach after a meal and I just love how it tastes with lemon. It tastes a little bit like SOD tea although I like this better.

If you are looking to lose weight, drink tea to give a little extra boost to your weight loss plan :) And even if you are not, it wouldn't hurt to give your body a little cleanse every now and then :)

So today on Cassey's July calendar, it is CARDIO day. I didn't really like what was listed today so I decided to plan my own list of workouts instead for higher intensity.

Today's workout will consist of cardio workouts from XHIT Daily and a butt workout from Be.Fit. Not a great variety of youtube channels here but its a change XD

So here's today's workouts in sequence!

1. Fat Burning Full body workout

2. Best Exercises For Burning Calories

3. Best Cardio Workout: Kickboxing

This was tough. Really tough. If you are like me, someone with a bad sense of balance, you would find it very difficult to hold ur core in place to prevent yourself from shifting while throwing those punches.
Due to space constraints, I replaced the skipping rope by holding on to 2 dumb bells 4 pounds each, and just swing it the way I would with a skipping rope. It was KILLAH

4. 8-Minute Boot Camp Workout

5. Navy Seal Workout

One of my all time favourites because it gets me sweating in no time.

And of course, the finally workout, the toning workout, done with resistance tubes. If you noticed, I like doing butt work. I'm on a quest to build a butt XD

That's it for today's workout!

Wednesday fitness log

Hey fluffies!

My reebok level 3 resistance tube is the star of the show today. I replaced my usual weights with it for some of the moves and tried to incorporate it into my workouts wherever I can for a little more intensity.

Here's today's workouts in sequence!:
1. POP cardio: Trafalgar trimdown toner

As usual, cardio first! Okay I admit, I held on to my weights for this workout. It's quite impossible to bend here and there without getting tangled with the tubes and having it smack me in the face.

2. Arms on fire

3. Back on fire
Definitely did this with my resistance tubes. Very nearly died. It was tough.

4. Victoria's secret angel arm workout
Though Cassey was seated down while doing this, I decided to stand instead so that I could anchor my resistance tube with my feet.

5. POP Pilates: Upper body arm workout

6. Call me maybe Mighty Squat challenge
Held on to my weights for this one.

Feeling a sore coming for me tomorrow morning but it ain't gonna stop me from workin' because ~
:)
